Sometimes all it takes is a little courage and the willingness to simply ask. For American travel influencer and YouTuber Andy Wise Lee, better known online as CookSux, that single bold question at the gates of Jaipur City Palace led to an experience he — and the internet — will never forget.
A Tourist's Unexpected Evening in Jaipur
Andy was visiting the iconic Jaipur City Palace as a regular tourist during the daytime when he noticed something extraordinary beginning to unfold as the evening approached. The palace, which is home to the Maharaja Sawai Man Singh II Museum and continues to serve as the residence of the Jaipur royal family, was clearly being prepared for a grand celebration. A wedding was about to take place.
With no idea whose wedding it was and no invitation in hand, Andy had a decision to make. Having always wanted to experience a traditional Indian wedding during his visit to the country, he decided to simply ask. As the palace gates began closing for general visitors, he walked up to a young woman dressed in a stunning blue and ivory lehenga choli and asked, "Excuse me, how do I get invited to the wedding?"
The Question That Changed His Evening
The woman appeared visibly amused by the unexpected request, but rather than turning him away, she did something remarkable. She walked over to her grandmother, who was seated in the front row and was clearly a person of considerable importance within the family, and asked whether the American stranger could be allowed to stay and witness the festivities.
The grandmother agreed without hesitation. Introducing herself as Jyoti and identifying herself as the groom's aunt, she warmly welcomed Andy to join her. What followed was a conversation that took an even more delightful turn — Jyoti asked Andy where he was from, and upon learning that he is Korean-American, she revealed that she was inviting him to stay partly because she is a devoted fan of Korean reality television. A love for Korean TV, it turns out, can open doors even at royal weddings in Rajasthan.
Nobody Will Throw You Out
In a second video shared on Instagram, Andy is seen expressing his concern about standing out due to his casual tourist attire, clearly feeling unsure about whether he truly belonged at such a grand occasion. "I don't want to intrude too much. Is there a place where I can sit?" he asked nervously.
Jyoti's response was as generous as it was reassuring. She asked someone to get him a chair, seated him right beside her and told him firmly that nobody would throw him out. She then went a step further and began introducing him to the distinguished guests seated around her — including, to Andy's complete surprise, a member of the Jaipur royal family itself.
It Was a Royal Wedding All Along
Andy had walked into a wedding with no idea who the couple was. But as Jyoti made her introductions, the truth began to dawn on him. Among those present was Diya Kumari, a prominent member of the Jaipur royal family, whose presence confirmed that this was no ordinary wedding celebration.
Sharing the viral videos on Instagram, Andy wrote: "I asked to attend an Indian wedding… didn't realize it was a royal one." The caption, paired with the warmth of the entire interaction, resonated deeply with viewers around the world. The wedding, Andy later confirmed, had taken place in February of this year.
The Internet Falls in Love With the Story
The videos have since taken social media by storm, with millions of viewers charmed by the sheer hospitality and openness displayed by Jyoti and the rest of the family. For many, the story served as a beautiful reminder of India's legendary tradition of welcoming guests — a culture where even an uninvited stranger from across the world can find themselves seated at a royal celebration within minutes of asking.
Andy's experience at the Jaipur City Palace is the kind of travel story that reminds us why exploring the world with curiosity and an open heart can lead to the most unexpected and magical moments.
