The suspect responsible for the explosion at the famous Rameswaram cafe in Bengaluru is under the surveillance of investigative agencies. On Friday, Rava bought idli from the cafe’s counter and left the premises after leaving the bag containing the improvised explosive device (IED) near the cafe when the IED was planted. The bomb exploded within an hour.

The entire incident — from the suspect walking into the cafe to the explosion — was caught on camera. NDTV shared a timeline of the suspect’s actions and the sequence of events that unfolded in 86 minutes. According to the report:

11:30 am: Unidentified person / prime accused got off the bus and entered the cafe premises.

11:38 am: Man seen on camera ordering a plate of rava idli

11:44 am: The suspect reached the hand wash area of the cafe. He left the bag thinking it was an IED.

11:45 a.m.: The suspect leaves the cafe.

12:56 pm: The blast took place at Rameswaram Cafe.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar shared the details of the blast, saying that a youth aged between 28 and 30 had entered the restaurant and ordered rava idli at the cafe.

“The blast took place around 1 pm. It happened at a Rameswaram cafe. A young man aged around 28-30 came to the cafe, bought rava idli at the counter, left the bag near a tree (adjacent to the cafe). The blast happened after an hour,” Sivakumar said. A timer was set for the explosion to occur one hour later.

Around 10 people were injured in the incident. Shivakumar said that no one was seriously injured and everyone escaped the danger.

Asked if any organization was involved or if it belonged to an individual, Siddaramaiah said it was still unknown. “We are looking from all angles. Our police officers are free to do whatever they think fit, from all angles,” Sivakumar said.

Bengaluru police have registered a case under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Explosives Act in connection with the blast at a popular quick service eatery. PTI reports that four people have been detained in connection with the blast.

“Investigation of the case has been handed over to City Crime Branch (CCB). All the injured are recovering and no arrests have been made,” Bengaluru CP tweeted on Saturday.
