The Prime Minister said this move would greatly alleviate the financial strain on numerous households nationwide, benefiting our Nari Shakti. Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared a Rs 100 reduction in LPG cylinder prices on International Women’s Day.
The Prime Minister emphasized that this initiative would notably alleviate the financial strain on millions of households nationwide, focusing on empowering women.
By reducing the cost of cooking gas, we aim to promote family well-being and foster a healthier environment. This aligns with our dedication to women’s empowerment and ensuring a better quality of life for all,” the Prime Minister shared on social media platform X.
Last October, the government increased the subsidy from Rs 200 per 14.2-kg cylinder for up to 12 refills per year to Rs 300 per cylinder. This Rs 300 subsidy per cylinder was applicable for the current fiscal year, ending on March 31st.
“We pay tribute to the strength, bravery, and perseverance of our Nari Shakti, applauding their achievements across diverse sectors. Our government remains steadfast in empowering women through endeavors in education, entrepreneurship, agriculture, technology, and beyond,” he stated.
The declaration follows a day after the Center sanctioned an extension of the targeted cooking gas subsidy of Rs 300 per 14.2-kg cylinder to the beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) for an additional year, until the conclusion of 2024-25.
The LPG subsidy will cover up to 12 refills annually. For the fiscal year 2024-25, the scheme’s total expenditure is anticipated to reach Rs 12,000 crore, with the subsidy directly deposited into beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
As per revised estimates, this fiscal year’s total subsidy outlay for LPG stands at Rs 12,240 crore. The interim Budget for the next fiscal year has allocated Rs 11,925 crore for LPG subsidy.
